Today across the interwebz #transformationtuesday posts will be going up everywhere. It’s a day for people to celebrate their own hard work, their quest to achieve their goals (no matter what those goals might be), and to inspire others to reach their own.

So the question is, what is your transformation Tuesday going to be this year?

Last week guest writer Cindy Rhea, discussed making new year’s resolutions. She talked about goals and the importance of not only making a plan to achieve them, but also picking goals that matter to you!

This seems silly, but is really such an important part of creating a successful transformation of your own. You must be passionate about it.

Physical Transformation is a Result of Mental Transformation

Physical transformation is a result of mental transformation. Plain and simple.

All those amazing transformation Tuesday photos you see? Those all are the result of a mental transformation that spurred a physical one. The transformer picked a goal that matter enough to them for them to overcome obstacles, habits, bad days—and just went for it, no matter what.

Is your goal that important to you? If not, that’s ok. Life doesn’t have to be all or nothing. But understand your physical transformation will mimic your mental one—so judge your results accordingly.

Goals That Are Measurable and Time-bound

Until the last couple of years I’d always create professional goals that were measurable and time bound (following the S.M.A.R.T. goal philosophy), but I wouldn’t do the same for my personal goals.

The result?

I was unfocused and my personal goals always took a back seat.

Sit down right now and write out your goals and apply the S.M.A.R.T philosophy to all of them.

Is it specific? Can you answer the five w’s for the goal?

Is it measurable? How do you measure success? How do you break out milestones?

Is it attainable? Is this a attainable goal for you? In the timeframe given? Goals should be a stretch and push you out of your comfort zone, but they should also be attainable.

Is it realistic? If you are an X-man, ignore this one.

Is it timely? There needs to be a sense of urgency? Make your goal timebound. When will you achieve it, or at what time intervals will you hit certain milestones.

This technique will transform your goals and how you go about achieving them. It will give you measurable milestones and tactics to follow to achieve the “transformation Tuesday” you want.
