When we’re trying to improve our health, we know packing a lunch is the best route, but it’s not always feasible. So what should you order when life calls for eating lunch on the go? Here are my top picks from a few popular lunch spots.
#7 – Turkey Breast with Provolone
The best choice on the menu is the classic turkey sandwich. Beware, though, calorie counts do not include having it Mike’s Way – oil, vinegar and mayonnaise will add extra calories. Want to add a sauce but minimal calories? Try removing the cheese and then ask for mayo.
Mediterranean Chicken & Quinoa Salad
Panera is a popular lunch spot and an easy place to accidentally overindulge. Many of their dishes appear healthy while laden with added fats, plus calorie values on the menu don’t factor in the bread, chips and/or apple side dishes. This pick is a protein-rich salad, something that can be hard to find out to eat.
Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich
Who says you have to get a BigMac at McDonald’s? There are plenty of better choices, including this grilled chicken sandwich. If you’re really trying to stay on track, be sure to pair it with a side of fruit or yogurt, and not french fries.
Grilled Teriyaki Chicken and Mixed Vegetables
Yes, even at a Chinese place you can get something reasonably healthy. The Grilled Teriyaki Chicken dish is by far the most protein-packed dish for the calories. Pair it with veggies instead of rice, and you have a great dish that won’t set your fitness goals back.
Chicken Burrito Bowl
Chipolte is a great place to get a meal with fresh ingredients, but beware, it’s easy to rack up the calories. Your best bet – a chicken burrito bowl with rice, beans and salsa. Skip the sour cream, cheese and guac if you’re trying to keep it around 500 calories.
What are your favorite healthy dishes out? We’d love to hear from you to include in our next healthy meals on the go post!
